Below are answers to some of the questions frequently asked to the professionals of Sierra Concrete Design.
1. What is the SCD product made of? Sierra Concrete Designs Fireplace Surrounds, Moldings and Columns are typically made of GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete), while our Pier Caps, Wall Caps and Baluster Systems are usually made of Pre-cast Concrete.
2. What is GFRC, and what are its benefits? Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) is a lightweight, paint-ready, impact and waterproof resistant construction material made of cement/aggregate slurry reinforced with alkali resistant glass fibers. G.F.R.C. is special because it allows unique opportunities for designing everything from wall units to multi-dimensional sculptural architectural details to interior feature panels.
3. Is a finish required for SCD products?
- SCDs product line is available in the following four finishes:
- SMOOTH, READY-TO-PAINT FINISH
- SIERRA STONE Naturale finish
- SIERRA STONE Travertine finish
- SIERRA STONE Renaissance
- All of our products are sealed prior to installation.
4. Are there different colors available?
Yes, each one of our SIERRA STONE finishes
is available in 9 colors. In order of popularity,
they are SANDSTONE, LIMESTONE, CARMEL, WHITE
SAND, MOSS STONE, NAVAJO WHITE, PEBBLE GREY,
BLUSH STONE, and TERRA COTTA.
5. What does the surface of SCD products
feel like?
The surface FEEL is dependent upon
the type of finish you select. NATURALE
feels like a sandstone fine emery board finish
and looks much like hard-packed sand on the
beach. The RENAISSANCE finish is
a bumpier version of our NATURALE
finish, and is a bit more rustic in style. TRAVERTINE
feels and looks like a natural unpolished and
unfilled travertine. The READY-TO-PAINT
finish is a smooth surface that is ready for
paint, similar to wood or MDF finish trim.

11. How are SCD products delivered?
SCD Products are delivered in wooden crates
and/or pallets. Products are packaged with Styrofoam

and should be stored the same way. Usually,
forklifts are required to offload the pallet.
All products should be stored inside or protected
completely from the outdoor elements.
12. What are the terms of payment including
cancellation and refund policies?
All orders require a 50% deposit to get the
order started. We accept checks, cashier checks,
Visa, MasterCard and American Express. The balance
is due upon delivery. Since they are all made
to order, no refund is available.
13. Do SCD products have a warranty?
Yes, all products are warranted for one year
from the date of delivery. SCD is not liable
for damage caused during installation. Due to
the nature of pre-cast and GFRC, there will
be slight color and texture variations from
time-to-time as with any stone product. SCD
will not be responsible for exact shade duplication
or finish.
14. What is the best way to clean and care for
SCD products?
Ready-to-paint products may be cleaned with
